Stake Temple Day!

Posted by Robyn at 10:14 AM on February 17, 2009 Comments comments (0)

It was really nice, because on Valentine's Day, our stake went to the temple.  Youth went for baptisms and such, and we went for the endowment sessions.  It was so nice, and so peaceful, and really a nice experience to be there with people that were in our ward, and others that we know.

We also got to sleep in today which I LOVED!!!

We have had a tradition of going to Mongolian Grill in Folsom after each temple trip we take.  We hadn't been in awhile, so it was nice to get to eat there!  John made a volcano with his soft-serve dessert, and looked like he was reliving the good ol' days of being a little kid again smile

John actually surprised me, and took me shopping for shelves for my candle room as a Valentine's Day present!  I think he's glad that I can appreciate useful gifts over the traditional ones sometimes.  Something I pride myself on.  Since I got the shelves, I've been organizing like crazy, and we were actually able to get a whole lot done!

Things are starting to fit really well together, and I'm feeling so accomplished big grin.

Gold Canyon and Cookie Lee

Posted by Robyn at 09:23 AM on January 28, 2009 Comments comments (0)

So this being January and all, it's time to make new goals for different things.  For my businesses, I'm going to really go out of my comfort zone to book parties and start making this the business I want it to be!  I do need your help though.  Word of mouth rocks!  Let people know what I do.  If you don't know exactly, here's the jist of it smile

I sell Gold Canyon candles, body, and home products, along with Cookie Lee jewelry.

I do parties with each company individually, and I'm always more than happy to do parties with both of them together.

I do have 2 websites.  One for Cookie Lee and on for Gold Canyon, however people cannot order off of the Cookie Lee website.  Cookie Lee has not added that feature yet, so they can only contact me through the website, view the catalog, view my events, and learn about Cookie Lee.  I am thinking about discontinuing my Cookie Lee website for that very reason.  My Gold Canyon website however has everything.  People can view the catalog, contact me, order, and view my events.  Here are the websites:

www.cookielee.biz/robynbair

www.mygc.com/robynbair

I have dedicated a room in my house for my in-stock items, soon to be available.  I'm calling it, "Robyn's Stock Shop".  Everything on sale here will not include shipping, and most items will be discounted.  The whole idea is cash and carry.  Plus, it helps me freshen up my inventory with new products.

I do fundraisers with Cookie Lee, giving the organization 50% of the profit made from the sales of jewelry.  I don't do funraisers with Gold Canyon yet because I'm not at hthe right level to be able to do them on my own.

I advertise in a variety of places including my car, and Autocraft.  I would love to do a display in a business, or reward those who bring me business.

Let me know how you would like to help, and I'll make it worth your while by hooking you up with some free peoduct smile.  I am really going to be working hard this year to build my business, because I won't be working a 9-5 job for the rest of my life!  And I want to start a family while still being able to help support it.  Here's to 2009!

New Year

Ok, so I am officially lame.  No posts since October!  But with good reason.  We have our house!  It was late October when we were able to purchase it, and we've been crazy ever since.  We're slowly but surely making our house a home; unpacking, furnishing, organizing, and cleaning!  We've had some parties, and have made a lot of progress, but there is much to still be done.  John and I are both still in the youth program working with the Miamaids and Teachers age groups.  Gold Canyon and Cookie Lee are great, and John is as persistent as always to getting his program done.  We are awaiting summer so we can get started on the outside of our home, and hopefully have people over on a regular basis!  Money first!

Proposition 8

Posted by Robyn at 07:43 AM on October 07, 2008 Comments comments (0)
Hey Everyone,

I know some of you better than others but I wanted to reach out to all of you regarding Prop 8.  In less than a month, all of us in California will vote on what I consider to be the most important issue in this election season.  Please learn more about Prop 8 and make an informed decision.  I don't expect that all of us will agree for all the same reasons -- but on Prop 8, I urge you learn what the consequences are and to not sit this election out.

I have spent a lot of time researching and even meeting directly with strong opponents to Prop 8 -- below is a summary of the important highlights in case that helps save you time.  I preface all of this by pointing out that Prop 8 is not a civil rights issue (even though the No on 8 campaign will try to spin it that way -- "equality of rights").  The State of California already extends all the same rights to gay partners that it does to married couples.

If Prop 8 was taking civil rights away from same-sex couples, then I would not be for it.  If it were about intolerance, then I'd be against it.  But in my mind, it's about four important things.  I am voting Yes on Prop 8 for the following reasons:

1) PROP 8 RESTORES THE PEOPLE'S DECISION IN 2000 -- In 2000, 62% of the people in California (over 4 million votes) voted Yes on Prop 22 to reinforce marriage as between one man and one woman.  By election standards, that is a landslide vote.  But then earlier this year, four activists judges from San Francisco on the California Supreme Court overturned the people and approved same-sex marriage.  Prop 8 seeks to restore marriage as previously defined -- nothing more and nothing less.  It's that simple.

In this two-minute video clip, Newt Gingrich lays out this primary issue behind Prop 8.  It's not just a difference between moral values but a statement on our constitution not being subject to activist judges.  See http://tinyurl.com/69lu3p

2) PROP 8 PRESERVES RELIGIOUS LIBERTIES -- If Prop 8 fails, churches will lose their tax exempt status if they refuse to allow same-sex marriage ceremonies in their public buildings.  Ask whether your pastor, priest, bishop or rabbi is ready to perform such marriages.  Ministers who refuse to perform same-sex marriages or teach doctrine against same-sex relationships may also be sued for hate and risk government fines.

While this is hard to believe, it's already happened in the State of Massachusetts.  See an interesting NPR article at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91486191

3) PROP 8 PROTECTS SCHOOLS FROM BECOMING A PLACE TO TEACH/PROMOTE THE GAY LIFESTYLE -- Since the California Education Code requires that children be instructed about marriage, then children (as young as kindergarten) would be taught stories or read books that talk about two princes marrying or two mommies in the kitchen.

Again, hard to believe but this is already happening in Massachusetts public schools.  See this short video about how devastating it will be for California schools if Prop 8 is defeated -- http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1784521903

4) PROP 8 SAVES TAXPAYER MONEY -- California is already in a budget crunch and there are rumors of a $7B loan from the federal government.  If Prop 8 fails, it opens the door to hundreds of pending lawsuits and thousands more on the way that will squeeze taxpayer dollars further.  Unless Prop 8 passes, it is inevitable for polygamous families and other alternative forms of marriage to surface in the courts and legislature.  It's a slippery slope if we change things once.

We probably all have friends and even relatives who live alternative lifestyles that don't pose any danger.  However, it doesn't mean everyone is as reasonable.  The more extreme gay activists have proven to be highly litigious -- a good example is the lesbian couple in Massachusetts that could have went to 20 other adoption agencies but went to the Catholic church to prove a point.  When you look at the impact that gay marriage has had in Massachusetts, it is scary to see it actually results in the polar opposite of freedom.

It will be a close vote.  As Prop 8 continues to grab headlines, viral videos and TV spots, please look beneath the surface to understand the core issues and what is at stake.  Again, this is not about liberals vs. conservatives.  See a great article in the LA Times written by a liberal Democrat -- http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-blankenhorn19-2008sep19,0,2093869.story

WHAT CAN WE DO?

1) Vote Yes on Prop 8 on November 4th
2) Contact others -- forward this email or write your own.
3) Register to vote and encourage others to do the same.
4) Display a Yes on Prop 8 yard sign or bumper sticker.
5) Volunteer to help at www.ProtectMarriage.com/volunteer

The House

Notice how it doesn't say "Our Home!"?  haha

We had an inspector come out to check out the home to see all the repairs that needed to be made today.  We wanted someone on our side to give us an idea so the sellers wouldn't miss anything (the agreement was that they would do the repairs).

Turns out that our guy noticed that there was TONS more damage to this home that we ever imagined.  Over 15K of repairs, and he was pretty sure that the sellers wouldn't take care of them.  There was more dry rot than we though, and it turns out that the room they build on the 2nd story to make it a 2 story was never permitted, so that would have been another lovely expense we would have inherited!

So yeah, we won't be getting this home.  We're still "homeless", and on the hunt!  Wish us luck!

Our House!

Happy Monday everyone!

We are almost definitely buying a house!  We'll still be in Orangevale, but we'll be in the Fair Oaks 5th ward in the Carmichael Stake, so that will be a big change!  So here's the latest...

We put in an offer, it was accepted.  We made our offer a little higher than asking price, but then said that the seller would need to make the repairs.  They agreed, and we'll be having an inspector come out this Wednesday to let us know the extent, and to make sure the sellers don't "overlook" anything smile  We've already put in a deposit, and now we're just waiting for everything to pan out.  Our loan is great, and everything is set.  We're scheduled to close October 6th.  The ONLY thing that would hinder whether we get this house or not is if the repair work that is left for us to do is overwhelming and not worth the money.  (We'll find out Wednesday!)

The house itself is 2000 sq ft, has a pool, is 2 story, 2 car garage, built in '62, 4 bed 3 bath, a very nice kitchen, and a side yard big enough to house a boat or RV!  (not that we'll be getting one any time soon, or while we're in this house most likely).

Anyways, that's the latest and greatest with the Bairs right now.  We're still saving like crazy for this new step in our lives.  If anyone wants to do their holiday shopping with me, or knows anyone who does, let me know please! smile

The Ladies' Plaza

Posted by Robyn at 11:30 AM on August 19, 2008 Comments comments (0)
Ok ok, so I decided to start another fun website.  It's called The Ladies' Plaza!  It's a networking/shopping site for ladies online.  Female-friendly businesses can be posted on the site with a link that redirects those interested to their individual website (or email address).  I'm letting family and friends with home businesses do this for free, but in the future, I hope to be able to charge for it and make some profit for my efforts smile

Anyways, check it out, let me know what you think, and if you have a business you'd like to share, let me know!

No more business, just family :)

Ok, so I finally decided to make official websites for Gold Canyon and Cookie Lee, so this is going to be an exclusive family-related only site.  If you have not heard already, the new websites are:

Cookie Lee = www.cookielee.biz/robynbair

Gold Canyon = www.mygccandle.com/robynbair

So yeah, I know some of you come to play the games, some stop by to view our photos and blogs, so have fun.  We love to hear from you all, so sign our guest book!

ProPay and credit cards

Posted by Robyn at 06:05 PM on July 07, 2008 Comments comments (0)
Hey everyone.  As most of you know, for Gold Canyon and Cookie Lee, I am now able to accept credit cards as payment.  I have chosen to go through a company called ProPay.  ProPay is like Paypal in many ways.  It is the company I have chosen to create an online account with, where I can accept credit cards as payment for both of my businesses.  I did have the option of opening credit card acceptance accounts through both Gold Canyon and Cookie Lee, but setting up 2 accounts for 2 businesses was way out of my budget, and I have found that this one account, is much less expensive.

The reason why I bring this up, is because a valued customer of mine placed an order with me, to which I sent her an email invoice through ProPay.  She saw the email, but thought it was fraudulent, so she deleted it.  I'm glad that this was brought up, so I can let everyone know that it is ok to use this company's link to pay me by credit card.  This is a secure website, and you can feel safe in entering your credit card information.  I have also added on my order form a note that reads:
"If you are paying with a credit card, I will email you an invoice with a secure link to enter your credit card informationThis email will be from "customerservice@propay.com" with the subject title "Payment Request from jarsiat@yahoo.com". "

Hopefully knowing the sender and subject information will let everyone know that it is an invoice from me, and that it is legit.  If anyone would like to view the privacy policy for ProPay, please feel free to visit www.ProPay.com to learn more.

One interesting thing that I have learned about entering your credit card information online is that when you are on the screen where you are required to enter any personal information at all - whether it be credit card info, social security etc. - if the URL at the top reads https:// rather than the normal http://, it's a secure site. (That's the way it is for ProPay smile

I just wanted to reassure everyone that if you place an order with me, and you receive an email invoice described above, it is from me, and it is secure.  If for any reason you would still rather not use the link, but would still like to pay by credit card, you can call me with the number, or if you feel comfortable emailing it to me, you can do that too, and I will enter it in to ProPay for you.  I do NOT keep customer credit card information at all, even upon request.  It gets shredded or deleted as soon as it is entered.  (ProPay does not store your credit card information either).

Thank you!
